Fill 'Er Up!

It takes one look at a classic Coca-Cola machine, a vintage radio or even a gas pump to see how we as humans used to really care about aesthetics. While modern design can be nice, a truly beautiful item is rare these days, and always celebrated, which makes me wonder why there isn't more beautiful stuff? Builder Norton74 gets it, and has crafted this vintage gas pump, which served a simple purpose, and looked good doing it.

A Clockwork Orange

Anthony Burgess' book A Clockwork Orange has had many covers over it's lifespan, but this one is perhaps the most iconic, and it's certainly my favorite. So to see it perfectly reimagined as a MOC is greatly satisfying. Builder daveh_design takes the starkly 2D graphic design by David Pelham and brings it into startling relief, and the results are stunning.

Stardust

I so love it when I'm scrolling though my Flickr feed and with no conscience decision find myself going "oooooooooh". When this happens you can bet it's a unique or particularly stunning MOC, and this craft by The /\rchitect is both of those, and more. It's simultaneously gorgeous and baffling, as your eyes and brain try to make sense of it. It's like the illegitimate love-child of the Slave One and H.G. Wells, and it's spectacular.

King Fisher Assault Unit

You don't see very many SHIPS (seriously heavy investment in parts) on this blog. It's not that I have anything against them, I just generally find them a bit ho-hum. Size does not equal impressive in my opinion. But when it comes to design, that's where you'll get my attention. And this MOC by KingBrick is off the charts. The color combinations, the contouring and levels of detail, the overall proportions and form factor are just stunning. I want to see it in a movie, now!

Review - The Art Of LEGO Design

Let's face it, there's a lot of LEGO books available right now. Most of them are genre themed, or specific to a particular subset of the hobby. A great any of them aren't particularly helpful. Well Jordan Schwartz is here to change that, at least from a design point of view.

Jordan is a former LEGO designer, one of the youngest in the company's history, and an active member of the AFOL community. He shares his, along with several notable LEGO builders, experience with design and building philosophy in this rather unique book from No Starch Press.
